Tips by AD: How to Design your Bedroom like a Boutique Hotel
A hotel’s high-thread-count sheets or plush bed pillows can—and should—have a life outside of the hotel. In fact, the overall design of a hotel guest room can be a source of inspiration; basic cookie-cutter decor has made way for big-name designers and award-winning firms to create motifs from a vintage modern sensibility to streamlined cabin-style. Today we found inspiration in Architectural Digest and we breing you some tips to design your bedroom like a boutique hotel!
When bringing multiple design elements together, symmetry is key. In this guest room at the London Edition, a walnut-paneled wall evokes the feel of an intimate yacht cabin, which is balanced by the airy feel of light wood floors and linen-and-silk curtains.
When using neutral hues, bring in different materials to give the space more dimension. The King room at the Dean Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island, has a simple black-and-white palette but creates subtle drama through textures and architectural details.
A plain room can become dramatic with a few coats of paint. Designed and owned by former fashion editor Vanessa Scoffier, the Hotel Henriette in Paris was transformed into a vintage-y boutique hotel using a bold and saturated paint palette, salvaged doors as headboards, and modern pendant lights.
Graphic fabric prints and dark furniture can balance a pale space. The architecture of the Loft King room in New York’s Ludlow Hotel is emphasized by exposed wood ceiling beams and patterned curtain panels revealing oversize windows. An Indo-Portuguese-style four-poster bed and silk rug add an exotic touch, while a brass-trimmed table flanked by purple upholstered chairs lends glamour.
