Their project 35 Spring Street is by far one of the greatest examples of their philosophy. Located on the far eastern boundary of the Hoddle Grid, the luxury residential defines the urban edge of the CBD and provides a major new landmark for the city of Melbourne.
The building’s architecture looks like an authentic sculptural object, on which a distinctive pattern gives the facade a unique appearance. This outstanding detailing was not only inspired by the history of Flinders Lane but also other political buildings that characterize Spring Street.
The tower’s facade features portrays of the historic masonry walls, such as warp, weft, layering of fabric and the ashlar patterning.
The distinguished architecture has a brilliant presence within the city’s skyline with its vertical and horizontal facade patterns. A woven veil provides the luxury apartments with defined windows and framing views of the surrounding area.
35 Spring Street by Bates Smart has an inside-outside environment where terraces and balconies enhance the character of individual residences inhabiting a tall building.
In its interior, luxury apartments are created to resemble an urban sanctuary to allow guests a relaxing getaway from the city’s busy environment. The studio opt to combine rich and textural finishes with highly-crafted and bespoke detailing.
In the lobby, off-form concrete columns line the perimeter anchoring the space, while grillage frames reference the external facade design. An Inge King sculpture, preserved from 35 Spring Street’s previous iteration, is a heroic centerpiece positioned in the lift lobby.
