David Cervera Designs Luxury Retreat in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula
Luxury Retreat by David Cervera features Modest Design and Plenty of Hammocks!
The prestigious and much awarded designer David Cervera recently designed a luxury retreat in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula which is characterized by a modest and simple concept.
Named as El Palmar, the interior design project is nothing but a 90 square meter space located among a grove of palms in Chuburná – a narrow barrier island north of Mérida.
The house comprises enough space for a bedroom, a bathroom and a living and kitchen area, resulting in a simple three-room structure that overlooks a semi-open terrace to the north.

Its layout is split into almost equal sections, which each facing the back yard. One of the areas has no end walls in order to be exposed to the outside. A hammock was placed across the gap and overlooks the beautiful landscapes of the garden.
In the second area David Cervera opt for full-height glass doors that fold open to a terrace that extends from inside. Another hammock stretches in front of the opening.
The bedroom area features tall windows that provide views for the swimming pool. The pool runs parallel to the terrace but reaches much further into the palm landscape.
The architecture is clad and lined in a local material named chukum, a waterproof coating made from tree sap, creating the perfect balance for the polished concrete floors, which are also decorated with mosaics.
