Get To Know Maison et Objet 2018 Designer of the Year: Cecilie Manz
Here’s all you need to know about the Maison et Objet 2018 Designer of the Year!
Every edition, Maison et Objet Paris selects an interior designer to honor some of the most outstanding names in the interior design industry. For the next edition, in January 2018, the chosen Designer of the Year is Danish designer, Cecilie Manz.
Emerging today as one of the major figures in Scandinavian design Cecilie Manz, graduate from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1997, founded her own studio in the heart of Copenhagen, where she draws inspiration from the vibrant city.
Not unlike other Danish, and Scandinavian designers, the balance Manz maintains between civilization and nature is vital for the creative process, and “more than a style, the Scandinavian approach she defends, should reflect the actual lifestyle of these countries”. Being a versatile designer Cecilie has worked on several projects, such as the minibar below, as well as glass vases, dining tables and a series of wooden armchairs.
This past autumn, Cecilie often flew out to Japan, firstly to collaborate with a Japanese company called Actus on a project named Moku and also to be the co-curator of the exhibition “Everyday Life – Signs Of Awareness” at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art Kanazawa on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the relationship between Japan and Danemark.

Color is a fundamental element in her creative process and she always develops a specific palette in the earliest stages of each project, because it is a way to assert the product’s identity. In her work, Cecilie often mixes shades of gray with brighter colors.
Her Scandinavian heritage is also self-evident in her effort to strip her creations of any superfluous element, focusing on the essential, oblivious to the fact that her ceaseless pursuit of uncluttered lines presents a new challenge every time.
What you can Expect at Maison et Objet
Cecilie Manz is constantly undertaking new projects and constantly experimenting in her studio. At the renowned design event, you can expect to see her existing products, as well as new designs, displayed in an inviting, very Scandinavian, atmosphere.
