See The Castle Decorated For The Holidays!
Since the reign of King George III, Windsor Castle has been given a festive twist during the Holidays. This year, the State Apartments will be, once again, prepared for the occasion, despite the recent passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Six Christmas trees are on exhibit in the castle from Thursday through Monday until January 2nd, 2023. In honour of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the Christmas tree located in the Crimson Drawing Room has been tastefully decked with crimson, purple, and gold ornaments—the Queen’s racing colours.

According to the Royal Collection Trust, which manages the Castle, “Visitors to Windsor Castle will see the State Apartments transformed with shimmering Christmas trees, twinkling lights, festive garlands and a spectacular table display in the Waterloo Chamber, one of the largest and most impressive rooms in the Castle.“
See The Decorations At St. George’s Hall
The tree was grown in Windsor Great Park and then moved to the castle. Its decor includes 3000 lights, jewel-shaped baubles, and purple velvet and satin ribbons.

The exhibition of Christmas trees is a yearly ritual for the Royal family. According to the Royal Collection Trust, Queen Charlotte, George III’s consort, brought the practice to Britain in the late 18th century, but she chose a yew tree rather than a fir.
