Lonely Planet Best Travel Destinations For 2020 is out! As a new year approaches the travel publisher has released a new travel guide. Keep reading to find out all about it!
Each year Lonely Planet releases a guide with the best travel destinations for the year to come. The list for 2019 included destinations such as Madrid, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Lyon. This year the travel list, which comes in the shape of a book, it’s in its 15th edition and has divided the selection of destinations in several categories – including Top 10 Cities, Best Sustainable Trips and so on.
The Lonely Planet’s book released this year is meant to not only inform us about great under the radar destinations but also to push us out of our comfort zones by offering a glimpse into different cultures and lives.

Top 10 Countries
The winner is this category was Bhutan, the world’s only carbon-negative country and a very sustainable country that boasts immense natural beauty, after all, it sits on the Himalayas. Other countries on the Top 10 include England, North Macedonia, The Netherlands an Uruguay.
Top 10 Cities
When it comes to cities the big winner was Salzburg in Austria with Washington D.C. coming in second. The last was a surprise but nevertheless an interesting choice to include as it will be the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and there will be plenty of celebrations. Other cities include Galway in Ireland, Kochi in India, Vancouver in Canada.

Top 10 Best Value Places
How does one measure value? You might be asking. Value can be measured by how further the same amount of money can go in different destinations, therefore how cheap a place can be. Some of the destinations include Zanzibar in Tanzania (pictured above), Serbia, Budapest in Hungary and Cape Winelands in South Africa.
