When asked about his style, he says: “To some extent, my style is very maximalist, but at the end of the day, it all depends on what the space requires. We have to be very sensitive to that, so I wouldn’t really say I’m minimalist or maximalist. What I would say is really great today is that we can do modernism, classicism, and maximalism, and in our projects, we’ve been able to do a bit of everything—which is fantastic. You can pick and choose and pull from different experiences and create something new that way. The world is your oyster. “

The Projects

The Ivy

Martin Brudnizki: When The Details Make The Design

Known around the world, The Ivy has been synonymous with style and status for almost a century and the quintessential West End establishment’s new look encapsulates those much-loved features that have made it famous. From the original stained-glass windows to the focus on the best of British art, those elements which were the essence of The Ivy’s past interior remain. Keeping these elements in mind Martin Brudnizki Design Studio brought the restaurant into the 21st century through the design of a breath-taking central bar and the use of an elegant colour palette that would reinvigorate the space.

The Beekman is a 287-room Thompson Hotel located near Manhattan’s Financial District. Originally called Temple Court and built in 1881 in the American Queen Anne style, the rich architectural history of the building guided the design of the hotel. From its distinctive exterior to the beauty of the dilapidated Victorian interior found inside, The Beekman is a hotel with provenance and its new interior scheme compliments this story.

Nick Jones requested Martin Brudnizki Design Studio to work with him on this 80,000 square foot hotel and private members’ club with over 40 bedrooms, three rooftop suites, two large pools, beach cabanas, a screening room, a Cecconi’s restaurant and expansive Cowshed Spa. Inspired by Cuba and Latin America, the oceanfront hotel, originally built in 1941, utilizes salvaged timber from Wyoming, encaustic floor tiles from a Church in Spain, vintage barber chairs from upstate New York and many reclaimed fixtures throughout the space.
