Inside The Actor’s New York City Apartment
Michael Imperioli and his wife, interior designer Victoria Imperioli, left their family house under the California sun and traded it for a two-bedroom apartment on the East Coast. The New York City apartment was decorated with hints of Old World influences and personal items.
The decor was created by Victoria around their big art collection, which includes antiques from the Enlightenment of the 1930s. The setting is reminiscent of the Sicilian palazzos seen in HBO’s The White Lotus and depicts a bygone era with obvious Italian influences. For Michael Imperioli, the apartment is a representation of the past and a refuge from the real world.
The past history of the building was a huge influence on Victoria when the time to decorate arrived. Once a hotel, the apartment’s roots are represented through the elements chosen in order to recreate its essence. The living room was designed to represent a hotel suite, with rich hues of grey so the art pieces remain the main focus, like the large print of a German painting from the 19th century that adorns the wall.

The dining room includes elements of French Art Deco that go back to 1926, the year the apartment was built, but the spotlight shines on the unsigned oil painting of Saint Barbara, one of Victoria’s favourite art pieces from their personal collection.
The kitchen was one of the rooms that suffered the most renovations, although the cabinets are the original ones! The birch tree wallpaper has a special meaning to Victoria Imperioli since it is a reminder of her homeland, Ukraine, and was something she was only going to use on the right opportunity.
The office is also filled with artwork, including two painted screens painted by Victoria’s late father, and a Santa Caterina painting that the couple purchased in Taormina, Sicily, while filming The White Lotus. The colour palette is made up of blues and greys, colours that are said to be good for intellectual work.
The bedroom diverges from other areas of the house when it comes to colour. It is supposed to be a representation of the sun in a very cold and grey New York City, and Victoria chose such a colour for that reason, so the couple could always feel the warmth and keep the mood positive in the room.

Given that they are both active Buddhists, Michael and Victoria’s strong ties to the past are particularly interesting. The apartment‘s original closet was, then, converted into a meditation space decorated with traditional yellow and red and religious paintings made by Victoria during a trip to Nepal in 2017.
