Biblioteca Joanina, Portugal

If you know Portugal, you know it’s a country with a rich culture and history and full o amazing places! One of the most beautiful libraries in the world is without a doubt the Biblioteca Joanina in Coimbra, an amazing baroque library from the 18th century.

Biblioteca do Convento de Mafra, Portugal

With about 40 000 books covering the walls, this library is one of the most important ones in the country, as it holds many important editions, as the first edition of “Os Lusíadas”. A curious fact is that the books are preserved by bats, who eat the insects that would otherwise eat the books.

Kloster Bibliothek Metten, Germany

This gorgeous and heavily adorned library located in Germany and even though the original library was built around 1265, it underwent several renovations, including the one that granted the looks of today, back in 1726.

Stiftsbibliothek Sankt Gallen, Switzerland

As the oldest library in Switzerland, it’s also one of the most important libraries in Europe. Founded in the year 719 it remains almost intact until today.
